On one of my days while visiting in NYC, we spent our afternoon in Fort Tilden Beach taking in the ocean views, sipping on Jamaican Rum Punch, and frolicking in the sand and water. We left Long Island City early in the morning to avoid getting stuck in the crowds as we waited for a shuttle to pick us up from Brooklyn and drive us to Fort Tilden.
It took us almost an hour for the shuttle to take us to the beach, during which time I (admittedly) played a little bit of Pokemon Go. Although it took a big chunk of our day to travel there, it was a pleasant ride since I got to spend quality time with my family on the drive there.
The thing about traveling is that you go where the wind takes you, and you embrace it. You have to be okay with things taking time, and not being on a "set schedule" the entire time. I have made this mistake in the past when traveling, but this being my first solo trip, it was so different from all of the other experiences with traveling that I've had.
It's refreshing to let go, and just do whatever comes your way. There's something magical about not having plans and being spontaneous with what you do.
Anyways, the beach was charming and we were able to enjoy the sunshine without a lot of heat from the sun. When I travel, I always make sure to pack a book or two with me. Being at the beach surrounded by tons of amusing people made for the perfect book reading opportunity.
